What are the four stages of COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the kind of illness that you’ll not hear about often. But surprisingly, it is one of the most lethal diseases. It causes millions of deaths across the globe each year. According to medical reports, over 15 million Americans suffer from this deadly disease. What’s more, it ruins an individual quality of life. And the bad thing is there is no known cure for this ailment. Once you have it, the best thing you can do is manage the symptoms.

You might mistake the symptoms for fatigue or allergy. At this stage, your lungs are still healthy. But the function of your lungs starts to decline.

Stage 2- Moderate

When you are approaching the second stage of COPD, the symptoms become persistent. At this point, you start to notice that what you are experiencing is more than a cold. You cough more, and you struggle with phlegm that’s no longer easy to expel. Also, the quality of your sleep deteriorates.

Stage 3- Severe

At stage 3, the disease has taken route in your lungs, and the symptoms are as severe as they can get. Your lung function has declined to a mere 30-49 percent. Additionally, respiratory infections become rampant. And your lungs can no longer fight off the viral and bacterial infections. You might get pneumonia, bronchitis, and other similar diseases.
